Strengthening dialogue between administration and community

Since 2019, bbw has been working with Brazilian partner organisations to support selected municipalities in Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Acre and other states on their way to becoming sustainable tourism destinations.

With the help of a network of advisors, representatives from the public sector, civil society and the private sector work together in local working groups and develop ideas for the sustainable development of their communities. The regional tourism strategies are an importnant drive for job creation, including in rural areas.

Strategies in the tourism sector as a model for other regions

Here stands a wooden signpost with colorful signs. The signs show aspects of tourism in Portuguese: tourism, destination management, nature and landscape, environment and climate, culture and tradition, social well-being.

bbw collaborates with partner municipalities to develop sustainable tourism concepts and supports them in obtaining 'Green Destinations' certification. This fosters positive competition in areas like waste management, renewable energy, community involvement and environmental education.

The certification is rigourous, assessing 100 criteria, including cultural, environmental and economic sustainability as well as local participation.
