Promotion of demand-oriented vocational education in Western Ukraine

The project strengthens vocational education in the western Ukrainian regions of Lviv, Volhynia, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil – even under the challenging conditions of the ongoing Russian invasion.

In collaboration with 7 vocational schools and 20 partner companies, practical training content is developed to improve graduates' employment opportunities. Significant progress has been made through curriculum adjustments and the introduction of dual education elements. The project is implemented by bbw, managed by sequa, and funded by the BMZ.

Training content and focus areas of project implementation

The project covers topics such as leadership, labour market integration, digitalisation and competency assessment. These are provided by German and Ukrainian experts, both online and in person. Educators receive training in team development, career counselling and conflict management.

The focus is on professions such as welder, automotive mechanic, electrician, renewable energy technician and CNC machine operator. In Phase 1 (2020–2023), 127 training sessions were held, and 69 were held in the first year of Phase 2. Despite the geopolitical situation, 25 of these took place in person.
