Education brings change

Change determines our lives. We`re designing the transition with education – to make it a success.

  • 1969

Formation of the "Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft e. V."

The educational institution (Bildungswerk) supports the civic, social, economic and vocational education of young and adult citizens in the sense of a liberal, socially committed business and social structure.

  • 1971

    Management Akademie München (MAM)

In this year, the "Management Akademie München (MAM)" started advising and training specialists and managers at all levels. The aim is to improve the competitiveness of its customers by actively helping companies to optimise their corporate strategies and with company-specific personnel development programmes.

  • 1981

    New challenges

Increasing levels of unemployment in the early 1980s affects not only badly trained employees but also, in particular, many young people. For this reason, the Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (educational institution of Bavarian industry) designs training courses that are tailored to the realities of the company's operations and take account of the participants' aptitudes and inclinations. Personal support leads to great success in (re-)integration into the labour market. The vocational training centres emerged from this field of activity in 1983.

  • 1983

Foundation of "bbw – Berufliche Fortbildungszentren e. V."

The training concepts for the unemployed with consistent use of the "company" as the learning location require a close relationship to the regional labour markets and the shortest possible decision-making paths when realising orders. The professional practical year (PPY) – a measure to combat youth unemployment – can be regarded as the origin of bfz activities to a certain extent. It is the first comprehensive measure. In the years following that, the company initial training scheme (BGM) for school leavers and training and practice for adults (BPE) will be added.

  • 1985

    Portfolio diversification

This year, not only will the name of the association be changed to "Berufliche Fortbildungszentren der Bayerischen Arbeitgeberverbände e. V.", but at the same time the product range will be diversified. For example, initial measures are being taken in the field of vocational rehabilitation. Training courses in control and automation technology, CNC technology and robotics are developed.

In addition, an independent business unit for research and development is created in bfz, in which projects are worked on that range from a specific qualification needs analysis, through consulting projects on the subject of occupational sciences and on to the development of IT training concepts for self-employed professions. Later, this will lead to bfz educational research.

  • 1987

    First international cooperations

MAM starts a cooperation with the "Shanghai Industrial Management Training Center" to familiarise Chinese managers with western management. At the same time, German managers who want to gain a foothold in the Chinese market will be qualified.

  • 1990

    Foundation of technical colleges

With the founding of a technical college for plastics technology in Weißenburg, bfz begins its entry into school education. Shortly afterwards, the technical college for mechanical engineering in Amberg and the technical business academy in Hof are founded. In 1993, the technical colleges for nursing care for the elderly and families are added. The schools in bfz are becoming a source of impetus for continuing education in the field of specialist training.

  • 1991

    European projects

bfz participates in the transnational European Community programmes FORCE, EUROTECNET, NOW, COMETT and HELIOS and establishes partnerships with educational institutions in Belgium, the UK, France, Italy and Portugal.

  • 1993

    Worldwide cooperations

bfz and bbw cooperate in the development of educational programmes for non-European countries, with a focus on Russia and China.

  • 1996

    Quality management system

bbw, bfz and Management Akademie München International GmbH (MAM-I) will be certified by the independent certification company CERTQUA, Bonn, according to DIN EN ISO 9000 by the end of the year. This concludes the two-year process of introducing a quality management system in the Group.

  • 1998

    Foundation "bbw Group"

The bbw group of companies is founded. In addition to increasing flexibility, there are other reasons for this important step towards the further development of the structure. The size the companies have since reached demands a legal form that is usual for this business. With the exception of bbw e. V., all companies are converted into limited liability companies. bbw e. V., which will continue to be supported by Bavarian business organisations and companies, will henceforth form the umbrella organisation of the bbw Group.

  • 2002

    Foundation of our research institute

The fields of activity of the "Forschungsinstitut Betriebliche Bildung (f-bb)" are basic research and implementation of pilot projects in vocational education and training; preparation of case studies, empirical surveys as well as the evaluation and scientific support of projects in the fields of education and training planning, media and methods as well as further education. The institute is founded as a wholly-owned subsidiary of bbw e. V.

  • 2010

    Benefits through equality

Six companies of the bbw Group were presented with the "TOTAL E-QUALITY" award for their achievements in the field of equal opportunities, including bfz, which received the award for the fifth time in a row. bfz also received the additional prize for "living diversity".

  • 2011

    Master of HR Management

In May, the Ludwig-Maximilian University, HR Alliance and bbw gGmbH started the new course of studies "Executive Master of Human Resource Management".

  • 2014

Inauguration of our university of applied sciences

On 1 October, the new Hochschule der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (HDBW) gGmbH will be inaugurated in Munich, focusing on business and technology. With the winter semester 2014 / 2015, the private university starts with three bachelor's degree programmes, which are offered both full-time and part-time: Business administration with a focus on international management, industrial engineering with a focus on logistics and supply chain management as well as mechanical engineering with a focus on mechatronics. The headquarters of HDBW is in Munich. Further locations are Bamberg and Traunstein.

  • 2015

    Augmented international activities

The international activities of the bbw Group are being intensified. The focus is on projects aimed at optimising specialist training. In cooperation with Chinese colleges in Shanghai and German companies, the bbw Group implements training and further education, for example, according to German standards. In Tunisia, a three-year project to improve dual vocational training was successfully completed.

With its practically oriented qualification programmes for language learning, schools and training, the bbw Group creates important prerequisites for the successful professional and social integration of refugees. The spectrum includes language courses, competence assessments, practical phases in our workshops and companies as well as support packages for unaccompanied minor refugees. By the end of the year, bbw had run around 420 individual courses with a total of almost 9,000 participants.

  • 2016

    New training center in Shanghai

In Shanghai, Prof. Günther G. Goth and Anna Engel-Köhler open the training centre of the Shanghai Bavarian Vocational Training Consulting Co. (sbvtc).

  • 2017

    Securing skilled labour

The districts of Cham and Schwandorf invest in Europe's youth and support the regional companies in filling vacant apprenticeships. The Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw) serves as a conduit for young applicants from Spain and Croatia and provides them with local support.

Nobody can stop change like that. Not states, not companies, not a single one of us. We can benefit from it. Thanks to education.
