The new digital learning platform for the African continent

The new digital learning platform for the African continent

www.hub4africa.bayern - Design and implementation of a unique learning and networking hub in Africa.

In October 2021, bbw gGmbH launched the innovative and digital project "hub4africa" in cooperation with the Bavarian State Chancellery.

With this hub, the Bavarian State Chancellery, in cooperation with the international division of the Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft, provides a unique digital platform for information gathering, networking and vocational training. Interested parties can find out about current learning content, projects and activities in Africa in several languages. hub4africa aims to encourage learning, participation and networking.

Education in Africa made in Bavaria - for a strong future

Due to the extremely young population and the above-average population growth in Africa, there is an urgent need to create jobs and income opportunities. Despite many years of international efforts and a considerable improvement in the primary school sector as well as in academic education, there are still major deficits in the vocational sector - especially in rural areas and for the female population. Certificates of qualifications are not recognised or transferable. There is an urgent need to strengthen entrepreneurship and qualified vocational training, to bundle them and make them accessible within the region.

Successive development of free, 24/7-available learning content for the platform

The learning offers of hub4africa cover the topics of career orientation, vocational qualification, entrepreneurship and train the trainer. In this order, the content will be gradually implemented.

The first offerings will be presented at "eLearning Africa" from 11 to 13 May 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda.

On the learning platform, which has been specially developed for smartphone users and is data-reduced, participants can inform themselves online 24/7 and free of charge about a variety of professions. This is done through short videos in which young skilled workers from different sectors present their work practically. In order to be able to offer a suitable basic vocational qualification for everyone, the users go through competence and interest tests that have been developed by experts, tested in the German market and adapted to the conditions on the African continent. Afterwards, the users receive a selection of professions suitable for them and initial basic learning opportunities. After completion, all participants receive a certificate.

The platform offers users modern multimedia learning elements for technical and vocational qualification in four levels. In the Basic and Expert levels, the information is available as a self-learning format 24/7 and independent of location. In the Professional level, the courses are offered in a blended learning format. All those who complete the Competence Level learn with a local partner in Africa.
