As part of the Kenya Vocational Training Partnership, bbw gGmbH has been working closely with the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP) in Mombasa since December 2025. The aim of the project is to open up better career prospects for young people in Kenya and to prepare them specifically for the demands of the labour market in the hospitality sector. The focus is on practice-oriented additional qualifications, establishing partnerships with businesses, and providing participants with language and technical training. This is intended to improve the chances of KCNP graduates securing skilled employment in Kenya. For selected participants, opportunities for international career paths can also be explored.
Important foundations were laid in the very first months of the project. In March, a joint planning workshop took place at the KCNP, during which key work steps, responsibilities and the overall project structure were agreed upon. This was followed in May by a technical analysis mission involving a German hospitality expert to examine existing curricula, practical requirements and qualification needs in greater detail.
Another important milestone was the Industry Partners Forum in June 2026. More than 60 representatives from business, education and other institutions gathered at the KCNP to discuss opportunities for collaboration and to further strengthen the link between schools and the labour market. Initial progress has also been made in the areas of language and equipment. Since June, a German teacher has been supporting the participants’ language preparation. In addition, the first purchases for a German Lab at the KCNP have been made, including digital learning technology and other teaching equipment.
In the coming months, the focus will be on further vocational training, the expansion of the supplementary modules and closer collaboration with local and international experts. Together with the KCNP and other partners, bbw gGmbH aims to make a lasting contribution to the quality of vocational training and the employability of young people in Kenya.
