With the "RECAP project – Promoting plastics recycling in Tunisia and Senegal" – bbw gGmbH International Divison is launching an initiative for greater sustainability and international cooperation. Funded by the Bavarian State Chancellery, the project will run from July 2025 to June 2027.
The aim of the project is to strengthen the recycling sector in both countries in a sustainable manner. The focus is on building capacity in recycling companies, improving process technologies for waste separation and recycling, and professionalising and marketing recycled materials. In addition, cooperation with the informal sector, cross-sector exchange, knowledge transfer and political advocacy are to be promoted – with a view to establishing a functioning circular economy in the long term.
Furthermore, RECAP creates platforms for cross-border networking. This not only protects the environment, but also creates new economic opportunities.
Following a needs analysis by SKZ – Das Kunststoff-Zentrum (engl: The Plastics Center) at the end of October 2025, the official project launch took place with two kick-off events in Tunis and Dakar. Together with the partner organisations CITET (Tunisia) and SONAGED (Senegal), the first steps were defined to network companies, skilled workers and institutions and share know-how.
As the project sponsor, bbw International Division contributes its experience in education and development projects. RECAP stands for a future in which recycling combines innovation and sustainability.
