As part of the “Future Energy Concepts” seminar, international experts from the energy sectors in Kenya, Namibia, and South Africa gathered in Wunsiedel, Upper Franconia, to learn about the energy concepts implemented there and to work together on sustainable solutions for energy supply. The seminar was prepared and implemented in close cooperation between the UBT Future Energy Lab and the International Division of the Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw) gGmbH. The aim of the seminar week was to impart practical knowledge about renewable and decentralized energy concepts while promoting exchange between the participants.
The program offered a wide range of insights, particularly into the energy concepts applied locally and the associated research work. Participants were given an introduction to the energy strategy of the city of Wunsiedel and visited the local energy park. Lectures on topics such as energy supply, storage concepts, sector coupling, digitalization, and green hydrogen by professors and research assistants from the University of Bayreuth and the Ostbayerischen Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden complemented the conceptual foundations. In addition, excursions to research institutions such as the Center for Energy Technology and the Bavarian Center for Battery Technology were on the agenda.
Interactive workshops, in which participants developed and presented their own energy concepts for their home regions, played a particularly important role. The focus was on exchanging experiences and perspectives. This laid the foundation for an international network of energy experts that will enable future knowledge transfer and long-term partnerships and provide a basis for further cooperation.
The seminar week showed how cooperation and mutual learning can be used to tackle global challenges in the energy sector together.
