BINA Ghana sets an example for the empowerment of women

The BINA project in Ghana, which originally expired at the end of November 2022, has now been extended by 4 months with special conditions by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The project to promote vocational training for disadvantaged young people from Accra and from Tatale in the northeast, which has been implemented by bbw in cooperation with Don Bosco West Africa since 2019, can continue. With the start of the new government, however, the orientation and focus of development cooperation changed to some extent. Now, special attention is to be paid to the promotion of higher-value jobs for women and the generation of jobs in green sectors.

bbw sees itself in a kind of pioneering role in being able to put this new focus into practice in Ghana. Especially the male-dominated courses, for example in the electrical, construction or motor vehicle sectors, are to be taken up by at least 25 % women in the future. In addition, bbw will use its expertise to offer workshops and training courses until the end of March to introduce and promote business start-ups and entrepreneurship in green, sustainable initiatives. With a final external evaluation of the above-mentioned projects and with the help of the local partner, a follow-up project lasting several years is being sought.
