As part of the project “Vocational education partnership Ukraine”, bbw gGmbH is collaborating closely with central and regional education authorities to support the development of partnerships between eight vocational training institutions and local businesses in four western Ukrainian regions: Lviv, Volhynia, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil. The aim is to firmly integrate dual training elements into the teaching process, ensuring that graduates are optimally prepared for the demands of the Ukrainian economy. This will be particularly important in the post-war period, when there will be an urgent need for qualified skilled workers to assist with reconstruction.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science now prioritises establishing training and practical centres, particularly in the context of the ongoing reform of vocational education and training. This includes modernising the institutions' infrastructure, equipping them with modern equipment, and involving the business community in the training process to produce highly competent skilled workers.
Thanks to the experience and practical expertise gained through the partnership project, Novyj Rozdil Vocational School successfully submitted an application to the Ministry of Education, securing the main funding for the centre. In addition to state funding, the project was also supported by the regional budget of the Lviv region and the local community. Around ten percent of the costs for the modern Fronius welding equipment came directly from the partnership project. Additionally, high-quality welding curtains were purchased as part of an initiative implemented by bbw to secure the welding area of the twelve welding booths that were manufactured independently by the vocational school. The supplementary classroom for innovative welding technologies, which is used for theoretical training, is equipped with modern teaching aids, multimedia technology and didactic and methodological materials for theoretical training.
The new training and practical centre thus provides apprentices with a practical learning environment in which they can hone their skills – a significant stride towards nurturing the skilled workforce of tomorrow and bolstering vocational training in Ukraine in the long term.
