All Brazilian partner communities in the DEL tourism project of the bbw awarded as TOP 100 Green Destinations 2020

A total of 9 Brazilian municipalities have been awarded as TOP 100 Green Destinations (sustainable destinations) for 2020. The special: These municipalities are all part of the DEL Turismo programme, which, together with the Bildungswerk der bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw) gGbmH, supports the local economic and sustainable development of tourism in these communities. The project is funded by SEQUA - partners of the German economy and by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The following Brazilian tourist destinations are concerned:  From Santa Catarina, the municipalities of Schroeder, Rio Negrinho, Gaspar and Forquilhinha; from Rio Grande do Sul, Rolante and Canguçu; and from the north-east (Rio Grande do Norte State), São Miguel do Gostoso, Tibau do Sul and Parnamirim (see also www.greendestinations.org). The aim of the Top 100 Green Destinations Award is to make success stories about sustainable tourism known as inspiring examples.

To take part in the competition, each municipality had to produce a report with the 15 most important sustainability criteria and practical examples. Measures developed during the Covid 19 crisis to prevent and manage the corona virus are also included in the evaluation of the municipalities. Nature and ecotourism, community and culture, tourism, environment and climate or one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN were also evaluated by the Dutch Green Destinations Foundation.

The DEL Turismo network

The DEL Turismo network was founded in mid-2019. It is a platform for dialogue through education, exchange and joint development of initiatives and projects to strengthen tourism. It is based on a partnership between the National Federation of Business Associations of Santa Catarina (FACISC), the National Federation of Business Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (FEDERASUL), the National Vocational Training Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (SENAC RN) and the Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw).
