Update from the project "Voc2Deaf - Give deaf people in the metal sector a voice"

Under the motto "Give deaf people in the metal sector a voice", bbw gGmbH is developing digital tools for hearing-impaired and deaf employees in the metal sector together with nine other European partners. Together we have set ourselves the goal of expanding the technical know-how of the employees concerned and improving communication in production.

At the centre of the project is the creation of an e-book. In the future, this will provide employees with support in which they can practise realistic training scenarios with the help of augmented reality technology. Processes, procedures and functions are visualised and clearly explained using a specialist sign language that was further developed during the project. In this way, we simplify the training of the target group on standard machine parts. This brings advantages for all sides: for the employees concerned, for the trainers and for the companies as a whole.

In order to realise this project and develop such a future-oriented standard, the bbw surveyed companies from the metal sector in December 2020 with the help of a digital questionnaire! In this way, the participating companies were able to incorporate their ideas and perceptions into the product development and a development based on the day-to-day requirements was guaranteed.

At the beginning of this year, the project got its own homepage: http://voc2deaf.com/
